Lenten Prayer

Lenten Prayer

A simple prayer for repentance, fasting, almsgiving, and deeper return to God during Lent.

Lent invites Catholics to return to God with a simpler, more truthful heart. A short prayer can help keep that return concrete, especially when the season feels busy, heavy, or uncertain.

The prayer

A Simple Lenten Prayer

Lord Jesus, lead me into the desert with You.

Teach me to pray, to fast with humility, to give with love, and to return to the Father with my whole heart.

Amen.

When to use it

A Good Prayer for the Whole Season

  • At the start of the day during Lent.
  • Before beginning a fast, penance, or work of mercy.
  • Before Confession or an examination of conscience.
  • When you need to begin again after spiritual discouragement.

How to pray it well

Keep It Concrete

  • After praying it, choose one small act of prayer, fasting, or charity for the day.
  • Let the prayer keep Lent focused on return to God, not spiritual performance.
  • If you fail, pray it again and begin again quietly.
